COVID-19 and FROM

FROM is committed to following current safety guidelines from the federal, state and local level in order to help keep our community safe from COVID-19 (corronovirus).

Due to the changing nature of  these recommendations, we will post updates on our Facebook page as we make adjustments and do our best to keep this page up-to-date with the latest information.

All FROM staff and volunteers have been updated on our COVID-19 Policies and Procedures, in compliance with state orders and best practices, including daily symptom checks, wearing of masks, proper hand washing/sanitizing, and more.

COVID-19 and FROM’s Main Office

Anyone who enters our building is expected to abide by the guidelines listed below. Please note additional guidelines and safety measures put in place for Treasures Thrift Shop and Donation Room, FROM’s Food Pantry and more can be found below.

  • Masks or face shields are required (*face shields available for those medically unable to wear a mask)
  • Please do not enter the building if you are, or recently have been, sick

Customer Safety Guidelines

  • Please do not enter the store if you are, or have recently been, sick
  • Please follow social distancing protocol and markings on the carpet
  • Dressing rooms will not be open
  • Returns are not accepted

Treasures Thrift Shop Safety Measures

In order to keep our customers and volunteers safe, Treasures Thrift Shop is instituting the following guidelines

  • Installing clear “sneeze guards” at the cash registers
  • Wiping down carts regularly
  • Installing sanitizing stations throughout the store
  • Wiping down commonly touched surfaces regularly
  • Installing guidelines on the carpet indicating 6 foot social distancing guidelines
  • Requiring masks be worn in the store (*exceptions made for those medically unable to do so)

COVID-19 and Treasures Thrift Shop Donation Room

  • follow social distancing guidelines
  • place items in the bins
  • only donate during open hours
  • limit your donations to current and upcoming seasonal items only
  • If you have large donations (any furniture or a large quantity of items), please call (616) 897-8260 for an appointment.

COVID-19 and Volunteering

FROM has resumed Volunteer Orientations for those who are interested in volunteering. More details, including a Volunteer Interest Form, can be found by visiting the Volunteer section on our website.  Please note, all FROM volunteers must

  • read FROM’s COVD-10 Polices and Procedures training document
  • sign stating agreement to follow the policies and procedures listed
  • complete daily symptom checklist before starting each shift
  • wear a mask during your volunteer shift

COVID-19 and FROM’s Food Pantry

FROM’s Food Pantry is now offering two ways to shop! Follow signs in our parking lot during Food Pantry hours.

Drive Up Option:

  • follow signs in parking lot and park in a reserved parking space
  • individuals stay in your vehicle
  • you will be greeted by a FROM staff person or volunteer who will explain the process to you
  • items will be loaded into your trunk (if your trunk is not available, you will be asked to load your own items into your vehicle- accommodations made for those physically unable to do so)

In-person Option:

  • follow signs in parking lot and park in a NON-reserved parking space
  • one member of your household may enter the Food Pantry to shop
  • you will be greeted by a FROM staff person or volunteer who will explain the process to you
  • Please note: masks are required for those medically able to do so and social distancing protocols need to be followed.

COVID-19 and FROM’s Connections Office

Now that the stay-at-home order has been lifted, FROM can again begin scheduling in-person meetings for the Connections Office (our support and referral programs, click here to learn more) although over-the-phone meetings may still be scheduled at the discretion of the Client Services Coordinator.

Those who have scheduled an in-person meeting must follow the guidelines listed below in order to enter the building

COVID-19 and FROM’s Mobile Food Pantry

  • until further notice, the monthly Mobile Food Pantry will operate as a drive up option only.
  • participants should remain in their cars and open their trunk for items to be placed inside.
  • those who are unable to have items placed in the trunk, will be required to pull forward and load your own vehicle (assistance provided if needed).

Food Commodities and Senior Food Commodities will follow the same protocol listed under the Food Pantry.

2021 Income Tax Assistance

COVID-19 and Income Tax Assistance

Those interested in participating must make an appointment by calling Heart of West Michigan United Way (as normal) by calling 2-1-1 or 1-800-887-1107. Click here to see full program details.

Due to Covid-19, the following protocols will be followed at your appointment

  • masks will be required (for both volunteer tax preparers and those having their taxes done)
  • temperatures may be taken upon arrival
  • appointments will be limited to two people.

FROM’s Christmas Toy Store and Food Basket will look a little different this year in order to follow social distancing protocols.

  • due to social distancing requirements, this shopping event will be spread over two days with folks receiving their date/time at registration
  • masks are required while in the building and registered families are limited to one adult parent or guardian to shop for all children.
  • those registered for both Christmas Toy Store and Food Basket will receive their food the same day as they are shopping for gifts.

FROM’s Backpacks will see the following adjustments this year due to Covid-19.

  • pre-registration still required
  • families will pick up backpacks during a drive-thru event (see webpage for full details).

2020 Winter Lunch Buddies

COVID-19 and Winter Lunch Buddies

FROM’s Winter Lunch Buddies will see the following adjustments this year due to Covid-19.

  • pre-registration required
  • families will receive a box of food and will also be able to choose from a small selection of items- will not be able to have children shop for food like in past years.
  • will operate as drive up and walk-in. Walk-in requires masks and limited to one person per family.
